dc.descriptionThis article examines dynamics of conviviality and care deployed in diverse urban areas in contexts of crisis. Based on an ethnographic study that included observation, interviews, and photovoice techniques, and emphasizing the experiences of migrant women residing in Gran Yungay (Santiago, Chile), dynamics of solidarity, mutual aid, and support (contención) deployed during the COVID-19 health crisis were identified. With the notion of neighboring care (cuidados vecinales) —an alternative to that of “community care” more commonly used—, I propose to look at care not only as self-managed dynamics of the sustenance of life that go beyond the private sphere. Neighboring care is a process of collectivization and spatialization of care that can also be based on transitory, diffuse, and even virtual ties, without necessarily involving organization by affinity. Observing care through “the neighborhing” (lo vecinal), and in the midst of shared critical moments, illuminates the dynamism and heterogeneity of the social ties established by migrants in the city. At the same time, it reminds us that increasingly heterogeneous and uncertain contexts do not simply promote fragmentation and conflict. As part of a collective experience, contexts of growing uncertainty and social diversification can also give rise to processes of disarticulation and (re)articulation of "the common".en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo examina dinámicas de convivencia y cuidado desplegadas en zonas urbanas diversas en contextos de crisis. A partir de un estudio etnográfico que incluyó técnicas de observación, entrevistas y fotovoz, y enfatizando las experiencias de mujeres migrantes residentes del Gran Yungay (Santiago, Chile), se identificaron dinámicas de solidaridad, ayuda mutua y contención desplegadas durante la crisis sanitaria del COVID-19. Con la noción de cuidados vecinales –alternativa a la de cuidados comunitarios, más usualmente utilizada– propongo mirar a los cuidados no sólo como dinámicas autogestionadas de sostenimiento de la vida que desbordan la esfera privada. Los cuidados vecinales son procesos de colectivización y espacialización de los cuidados que también pueden descansar en vínculos transitorios, difusos e incluso virtuales, sin necesariamente conllevar organización por afinidad. Observar los cuidados a través de “lo vecinal”, y en medio de momentos críticos compartidos, ilumina el dinamismo y heterogeneidad de los vínculos sociales que establecen las personas migrantes en la ciudad. Al mismo tiempo, nos recuerda que contextos crecientemente heterogéneos e inciertos no simplemente promueven fragmentación y conflicto. Como parte de una experiencia colectiva, contextos de creciente incertidumbre y diversificación social también pueden dar pie a procesos de desarticulación y (re)articulación de “lo común”.es-ES
