Catolicismo con sentido social en el epistolario de Mons. Manuel Larraín: mediaciones analíticas, fundamentos y experiencias A commitment to social justice is an essential aspect of the pastoral praxis of Bishop Manuel Larraín, whose impact reaches beyond Chile to all of Latin America. The unpublished correspondence from his years as bishop of Talca make this apparent. In addition to insights into situations of his day, and given its breadth and depth, this correspondence is a valuable resource for better understanding Larraín’s thinking and the pastoral choices he made. This paper approaches Larraín’s ministry from a social perspective through three categories that emerge from his letters. The first part deals with how, for Manuel Larraín, reality—understood through the social sciences—is an indispensable mediation for pastoral discernment and projection. Next, the criteria for judging reality, as understood in this way, are explored. This criteria finds in the Social Doctrine of the Church the fundamental keys to acting in ways consistent with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Finally, two concrete case studies that reflect this dynamic are presented: the challenges of unionizing the campesinos and the issue of land distribution in the mid-twentieth century.; El compromiso social es una dimensión esencial de la praxis pastoral del obispo Manuel Larraín, que tiene un alcance tanto a nivel nacional como latinoamericano. Accedemos a ella por medio del epistolario inédito de sus años de obispo de Talca. Este, junto con reflejar dimensiones propias de su tiempo, representa una fuente valiosa por su amplitud y profundidad para comprender mejor su pensamiento y sus opciones pastorales. En este estudio nos aproximamos a su ministerio desde una perspectiva social, a través de tres dimensiones que surgen de sus cartas. En la primera parte vemos cómo para Manuel Larraín la realidad, conocida a través de las ciencias sociales, se constituye como una mediación indispensable para el discernimiento y proyección pastoral. A continuación, se describen los criterios de juicio de la realidad así conocida, que encuentran en la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia las claves fundamentales para un actuar coherente con el Evangelio de Jesucristo. Finalmente, se presentan dos casos concretos que reflejan bien este dinamismo: los desafíos de la sindicalización del campesinado y el problema de la distribución de la tierra a mediados del siglo XX.

De la cautela a la urgencia. Visiones del catolicismo chileno sobre el fenómeno protestante en la primera mitad del siglo XX Through analyzing reports, periodicals, and books from the time period in question, this article argues that Chilean Catholics underwent a change in perspective regarding Protestant churches, driven by their concern over these churches’ growth, diversification, and spread throughout society, especially during the 1930s and 1940s. In this context, Chilean Catholics aimed their criticism at the role played by the United States in the expansion of Protestantism and the nationalization processes of Protestant churches during that period. In response, Catholics advocated for a more proactive attitude among local believers in defending their faith, as well as for a collaboration with their US American counterparts for that purpose.; A partir del análisis de informes, publicaciones periódicas y libros de la época, se argumenta que los católicos nacionales exhibieron un cambio en su percepción respecto a las iglesias protestantes, caracterizado por su preocupación ante el crecimiento, diversificación y penetración social de estas, especialmente durante las décadas de 1930 y 1940. En este contexto, dirigieron sus críticas al papel desempeñado por Estados Unidos en la expansión del protestantismo y al proceso de nacionalización de dichas iglesias en el período. Como respuesta, los católicos abogaron por una actitud más proactiva de los fieles locales en la defensa de su fe, así como también por un acercamiento con sus pares norteamericanos para tal propósito.

From Laudato Si’ to Laudate Deum: The (still) unengaged theology of technology and the technocratic paradigm; From Laudato Si’ to Laudate Deum: The (Still) Unengaged Theology of Technology and the Technocratic Paradigm This article explores the concept of the technocratic paradigm and its relevance for relaunching the theology of technology as an important asset to answer the invitation to build an integral ecology made by Francis. The environmental situation, which is the focus of Laudato Si' and Laudate Deum, shows that the problem of technology is at the heart of the causes of the socioenvironmental crisis. After tracing the roots of the technocratic paradigm and the originality of the approach Francis develops in both documents, the article outlines the tasks that the Pontiff’s perspective leaves for the theology of technology in order to address the socioenvironmental crisis and, consequently, construct a holistic ecology that shows the way out.; Este artículo explora el concepto de paradigma tecnocrático y su relevancia para el relanzamiento de la teología de la tecnología como aporte a la invitación a una ecología integral que realiza Francisco. El problema ambiental, foco de Laudato Si’ y de Laudate Deum coloca el tema de la técnica en el corazón de las causas de la crisis socio-ambiental. Después de rastrear las raíces del paradigma tecnocrático y la originalidad del enfoque que desarrolla Francisco en ambos docu-mentos, el artículo propone las tareas que deja a la teología de la técnica la perspectiva adoptada por el Pontífice para hacerse cargo de la crisis socio-ambiental y, consecuentemente de la construcción de una ecología integral que sirva de iluminación para encontrar el camino de salida.

La técnica desde los marcos teóricos de la evolución biológica y de la economía de la salvación. Tecnique from the theoretical framework of biological evolution and salvation economics Abstract: The article proposes a theological reflection on technology that incorporates two major theoretical frameworks of a temporal dimension: on the one hand, the scientific framework of an evolving universe and life; on the other hand, the economy of salvation that includes the current planetary situation due to technological activity. Thus, technology is considered in a diachronic way and in a scientific and theological way at the same time. The Anthropocene, a period defined by human intervention on the planet mainly through technical activity, appears as a crucial stage in the economy of creation and salvation.  ; Se propone una reflexión teológica sobre la técnica que incorpore dos grandes marcos teóricos de carácter temporal: por una parte, el marco científico de un universo y vida en evolución; por otra parte, la economía de la salvación que incluya la actual situación planetaria debido a la actividad tecnológica. De este modo, la técnica es considerada de un modo diacrónico y en un modo científico y teológico a la vez.
