Within the framework of a panel that invited reflection on the relationship between theater and contingency, the text proposes a preamble based on a story by Eduardo Galeano that invites us to consider the historicity and political nature of theater. It then unfolds five speculative topics that link theater and: events, world, era, ideology, and history.; El texto consiste en una reescritura de la ponencia presentada en el Coloquio de Estudios Escénicos y Teatrales realizado en enero de 2025 en GAM. It highlights how the development of Applied Theatre has encountered resistance rooted in artistic hierarchies inherited from Enlightenment thought and institutionalized within cultural institutions. The text proposes a critical examination of the term “applied”, articulating the concepts of liminal theatre (Dubatti) and expanded theatre (Sánchez) as theoretical frameworks that reinforce the hybrid, transdisciplinary, and situated nature of these practices, which integrate community participation, the ethical dimension of art, and its transformative impact. Finally, the article emphasizes the need to consolidate Applied Theatre as a research field within Theatre Studies, capable of integrating artistic praxis, critical thought, and social engagement.; El artículo analiza el concepto de Teatro Aplicado como una categoría teórica necesaria para reconocer y legitimar prácticas escénicas históricamente marginadas por los marcos académicos tradicionales. El texto evidencia de qué manera el desarrollo del Teatro Aplicado ha enfrentado resistencias ligadas a jerarquías artísticas heredadas del pensamiento ilustrado y consolidadas en las instituciones culturales. Se propone una revisión crítica del término “aplicado”, articulando los conceptos de teatro liminal (Dubatti) y teatro expandido (Sánchez) como marcos teóricos que refuerzan el carácter híbrido, transdisciplinar y situado de estas prácticas, en donde confluyen la participación comunitaria, la dimensión ética del arte y su impacto transformador.
