dc.descriptionEste artículo intenta derribar cinco mitos prevalecientes, todos los cuales están implícitos en el debate actual y en la retórica que rodea a las telecomunicaciones y el futuro de las ciudades. Estos han sido etiquetados como: el mito del determinismo tecnológico, el mito de la disolución urbana, el mito del acceso universal, el mito de la simple substitución del transporte por las telecomunicaciones y el mito de la falta de poder local. Cada uno de ellos será tratado por separado y para cada uno hay un intento de construir, sobre la base de investigaciones recientes, perspectivas más sofisticadas sobre las relaciones ciudad-telecomunicaciones.es-ES
dc.descriptionThis article attempts to debunk five prevailing myths which together are implicit in much of the current debate and rhetoric surrounding telecommunications and the future of cities. These are labelled: the myth of the technological determinism, the myth of urban dissolution, the myth of universal access, the myth of the simple substitution of transport by telecommunications, and the myth of local powerlessness. Each is treated in turn, and for each an attempt is made to build to recent research to develop more sophisticated perspectives of city-telecommunications relations.en-US
