This article examines the changes in ownership and corporate control of the main Chilean business groups, considering the transformations that arose in the political-institutional sphere between 1970 and 1978. Investigates the impact of two significant political and economic events in the relations of ownership and control that articulate the economic groups. First, we refer to the measures implemented with respect to the business owned by the Socialist Government of the Popular Unity (1970-1973), characterized by a process of nationalization conducive to the formation of an Area of Social Property. Secondly, in a context of institutionalization of a free market economy, it inquires in the return of the nationalized units and the first round of privatization of public companies (1974-1978) in the military regime. Thus, the consequences of both events in the economic structure of the major business groups of the country are examined.Keywords: Business groups, changes in ownership andcontrol, institutional changes, companies.En este artículo se examinan los cambios en la propiedad y el control empresarial de los principales grupos económicos chilenos, considerando las transformaciones suscitadas en la esfera político-institucional entre 1970 y 1978. Se investiga el impacto de dos significativos acontecimientos político-económicos en las relaciones de propiedad y control que articulan a los grupos empresariales. En primer lugar, nos referimos a las medidas implementadas con respecto a la propiedad empresarial por el Gobierno socialista de la Unidad Popular (1970-1973), caracterizadas por un proceso de estatización conducente a la formación de un Área de Propiedad Social. En segundo término, en un contexto de institucionalización de una economía de libre mercado, se indaga en la devolución de las unidades estatizadas y la primera ronda de privatización de empresas públicas (1974-1978), realizada durante el régimen militar.
