| dc.description | This article analyses the origin and early days of the Centro de Estudios Públicos, a leading Chilean liberal think tank, since its foundation in 1980. The objective of the study is to explain how this liberal institution was created in order to support the economic reforms implemented by Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship during the 1980s. The results depict an alliance between former economic dictatorship advisers, major economic groups, notable members of the Chilean right wing, and the Mont Pelerin Society -a liberal transnational network founded by Friedrich Hayek-. | dc.description | El artículo analiza los factores de origen y primeros años del Centro de Estudios Públicos, principal think tank liberal chileno desde su fundación en 1980. El objetivo del estudio es dar cuenta cómo esta institución liberal nació con la finalidad de apoyar la implementación de las modernizaciones económicas llevadas a cabo por la dictadura del general Augusto Pinochet. Los resultados muestran que el CEP es fruto de una alianza entre los economistas que dieron forma a la política económica del régimen, grandes grupos empresariales de la época, reputados miembros de la derecha chilena y una red de académicos a nivel transnacional como lo fue la Sociedad Mont Pelerin, liderada por Friedrich Hayek.
