| dc.description | This work serves as a critique to J.S. Mill’s observations presented in “On Liberty”. In our opinion, Mill failed in not thinking that his own ideas would fall victim to the evils he denounced, being that they became part of a culture that, in considering itself morally superior, didn’t make place for a genuine pluralism, resisting change at all costs. Borrowing from philosopher Byung Chul-Han’s ideas, we can relate this situation to the collapse of the individual thanks to a fear to “otherness”. In the age of sacrifice of liberty for security, we can only expect a reaction to an ever-growing state of vigilance, and we cannot expect it from the world’s leading nations. Building on this observations, we conclude that the last chance will be given on the periphery: where the conditions of pluralism and, most importantly, a lack of state capacity to asphyxiate privacy, are a given. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este trabajo plantea una crítica al estudio realizado por J.S. Mill en “Sobre la Libertad”. A nuestro juicio, Mill se equivocó al no pensar que sus ideas serían víctima de los males que denunciaba, ya que ellas se volvieron parte de una cultura que, al considerarse moralmente superior, hizo poco lugar a un genuino pluralismo, resistiendo al cambio a toda costa. Con ayuda de las agudas observaciones del filósofo Byung Chul-Han, podemos trazar esta situación al colapso del individuo gracias al miedo hacia la otredad. En la era del sacrificio de la libertad por la seguridad, sólo podemos esperar una reacción al estado de vigilancia que cobra cada vez más protagonismo, y ello no se dará en las naciones líderes del mundo. Construyendo sobre estas observaciones, se concluye que la última posibilidad se dará en la periferia: allí dónde los supuestos de pluralismo y, principalmente, una falta de capacidad estatal para llevar a cabo una asfixia de la privacidad, sean un hecho. | es-ES |
