dc.descriptionThis article gives an alternative explanation to Carey and Siavelis article (2003) where it states that the Concertación presents stronger candidates at the parliamentary elections because it offers “insurance”, executive appointments, for those candidates who would lose the election after taking a personal risk in favor of the coalition. Here, I evaluate the previous political career of those candidates, and starting from this point, I state that those who lost the parliamentary elections, instead of receiving an “insurance”, return to the government after of the elections. This work deepens with the allocation of governmental positions to the Concertación´s goog losers and research if they already worked for the government before launching their parliamentary campaign.en-US
dc.descriptionEste trabajo ofrece una explicación alternativa al artículo de Carey y Siavelis (2003) que señala que la Concertación presenta más candidatos fuertes en las elecciones parlamentarias debido a que ofrece “seguros” nombramientos en el Ejecutivo, para aquellos candidatos que, asumiendo un riesgo personal a favor de la coalición, pierdan la elección. Aquí, evalúo las carreras políticas anteriores de los candidatos, y a partir de eso planteo que aquellos que perdieron la elección parlamentaria más que recibir un “seguro”, retornan al gobierno luego de la contienda electoral. Este trabajo profundiza en la asignación de cargos gubernamentales a los subcampeones de la Concertación y estudia si estos, antes de emprender su campaña parlamentaria, ya trabajaban en el gobierno.es-ES
