dc.descriptionOne of the major transformations in presidential regimes in Latin America is the increasingly widespread adoption of reelection. The key political actor in this process is the President, who initially promotes a Constitutional reform in order to remain in power. The central question asked is: Why some presidents succeed in achieving a more permissive reelection reform, while others fail? To answer this question a comparative qualitative methodology is used in order to identify strategic presidential resources geared towards achieving a reform. The article concludes that the coincidence of resources such as personalistic party control, popular support, and the absence of a congressional majority are some of the conditions that lead to a successful reform.en-US
dc.descriptionUna de las grandes transformaciones de los presidencialismos latinoamericanos ha sido la adopción cada vez más generalizada de la reelección presidencial. En la consecución de este objetivo el Presidente se convierte en el actor político clave al buscar su permanencia en el cargo e impulsar para ello la reforma a la norma constitucional, como condición necesaria para alcanzarlo. Partiendo de esta base, mediante una metodología cualitativa comparada, el análisis se plantea responder por qué unos presidentes tienen éxito en la reforma para hacer más permisiva la reelección, mientras otros fracasan. Se concluye que recursos como el control personalista del partido, la popularidad o la arena extraparlamentaria y la ausencia de mayoría en el Parlamento conducen al éxito en la reforma.es-ES
