dc.descriptionDuring 2008 the dynamics of the country focused on the second general elections in the post-civil war, where will be renewed the executive, the legislative and the members of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), and the mayors of the 262 municipalities. The electoral atmosphere, the campaigns, and above all, the contest for the presidency marked the political discourse and behavior of all sectors of the society. At the end of the year, El Salvador observed clear signs of a heightened political polarization - that even the local effects of the international financial crisis could dilute-, and was preparing to enter to a new scenery that could be mark, for the first time in 20 years, by the possibility of the presidency’s alternation.en-US
dc.descriptionDurante el 2008 la dinámica del país giró en torno a los preparativos electorales de los segundos comicios generales de la postguerra interna. En estos deberá renovarse el Poder Ejecutivo, redefinirse la composición legislativa, elegirse nuevos diputados al Parlamento Centroamericano (PARLACEN), así como a los alcaldes de los 262 municipios del país. Lo cierto es que el ambiente preelectoral, las campañas partidarias y, sobre todo, la contienda por la presidencia marcaron el discurso y comportamiento político de todos los sectores de la sociedad. Así, al finalizar el año, El Salvador observaba signos claros de una agudizada polarización política, que ni los primeros efectos locales de la crisis financiera internacional lograban diluir, y se preparaba para entrar en la última recta de lo que se perfiló como una contienda histórica por la presidencia que dibujaba, por vez primera en 20 años, la posibilidad de alternancia.es-ES
