Abstract
Four diterpenes (abietatriene, ferruginol, acetyl ferruginol and isopimarol) were isolated from the bark of Prumnopytis andina (Poepp. ex Endl.) de Laub. and two diterpenes (sugiol and an unidentified diterpene) from the bark of Austrocedrus chilensis (D. Don) Pic. Serm. et Bizzarri. The structures were established by spectroscopic methods (1D and 2D NMR techniques including DEPT, COSY and HETCOR). Abietatriene, ferruginol, the unidentified diterpene and the extracts were tested for antimicrobial activity against standard bacterial strains (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas sp.)
