| dc.description | This paper reiterates the thesis pointed out by other analysts that the bilateral relationship between Chile and the United States has had more moments of distance than of rapprochement. This hypothesis is verified by a historical description of the ties between the two nations since the 19th century. However, we argue that a new type of relationship is being formed based on a shared international realism and that a more constructive approach is being implemented in the current Bush administration, especially in the context of the Americas Initiative, a policy that results from a thorough review of the United States economic policy towards Latin America. | en-US |
| dc.description | En el presente trabajo se reitera la tesis señalada por otros analistas en cuanto a que en la relación bilateral entre Chile y los Estados Unidos se han dado más momentos de distancia que de acercamiento. Esta hipótesis se comprueba mediante una descripción histórica de esta vinculación a partir del siglo XIX. Sin embargo, sostenemos que se estaría formando un nuevo tipo de relación basado en un realismo internacional compartido y que en la actual administración Bush se estaría implementando una aproximación más constructiva, especialmente en el contexto de la Iniciativa de las Américas, política que resulta de una profunda revisión de la política económica Unidos hacia América Latina. | es-ES |
