| dc.description | In the world that has followed the Cold War, the United States has conditioned the normalization of relations to the establishment of political democracy on the Island. Because nationalism was the driving force of the Cuban Revolution and still constitutes the last bastion of legitimacy of the government, the current leadership is reluctant to implement reforms that appear to be concessions to the United States. Cuban leaders have almost always emphasized the supremacy of political factors in addressing what often appeared to be ungovernable realities. It is therefore rather ironic that they insist so stubbornly on the primacy of the economy to diagnose the current crisis. It does not matter, since the crisis is also political and only a response that advances towards the establishment of a political democracy will stimulate a peaceful transformation of the current situation. | en-US |
| dc.description | En el mundo que ha seguido a la Guerra Fría, Estados Unidos ha condicionado la normalización de relaciones al establecimiento de la democracia política en la Isla. Debido a que el nacionalismo fue la fuerza motriz de la Revolución Cubana y todavía constituye el último baluarte de legitimidad del gobierno, la actual dirigencia se muestra reacia a aplicar reformas que parezcan concesiones a los Estados Unidos. Los dirigentes cubanos casi siempre hicieron hincapié en la supremacía de los factores políticos para abordar lo que a menudo parecían ser realidades ingobernables. Es por lo tanto más bien irónico que insistan con tanta obstinación en la primacía de la economía para diagnosticar la crisis actual. No importa, pues la crisis también es política y solo una respuesta que avance hacia la instauración de una democracia política estimulará una transformación pacifica de la situación actual. | es-ES |
