| dc.description | During 2005 and 2006 eleven Latin American countries will held or had presidential elections, from Mexico in the north to Peru, Bolivia and Chile in the south. There was also or will be in Haiti, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil. This article analyzes the presidential election in Chile in which Michelle Bachelet was elected, the first woman in the history of Chile and in South America to become head of state through a popular election. This has generated international interest, due to its impact on the increase in the participation of women in public activity. The political and institutional factors that explain the fourth presidential triumph of the Coalition for Democracy, the center-left coalition that has maintained the leadership of the government since the return to democracy in 1990, are examined. | en-US |
| dc.description | Durante 2005 y 2006 once países de América Latina tienen o tuvieron elecciones presidenciales, desde México por el norte, hasta Perú, Solivia y Chile en el sur. También hubo o habrá en Haití, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia y Brasil. En este artículo se analiza la elección presidencial en Chile en que fue elegida Michelle Bachelet, la primera mujer en la historia de Chile y en América del Sur que llega a la jefatura del Estado mediante una elección popular. Ello ha provocado interés internacional, por su impacto en el aumento de la participación de las mujeres en la actividad pública. Se examinan los factores políticos e institucionales que explican el cuarto triunfo presidencial de la Concertación por la Democracia, la coalición de centro e izquierda que mantiene la dirección del gobierno desde el regreso a la democracia en 1990. | es-ES |
