Los lazos entre América Latina y Gran Bretaña no han sido estrechos. Sin embargo, desde fines de la década pasada se aprecia un creciente interés de Gran Bretaña hacia la región. Para comprender esta nueva tendencia, en el presente trabajo se analizan, en primer lugar, los antecedentes de las relaciones anglo-latinoamericanas a partir de 1930. Luego, se examinan las diversas señales que muestran esta reorientación: las respectivas visitas oficiales, la presencia del tema latinoamericano en los debates parlamentarios británicos y el fortalecimiento de los vínculos económicos, entre otros. Finalmente, se mencionan las limitaciones u otras áreas de preocupación de la diplomacia británica que condicionan este acercamiento. Como conclusión, se plantea que el interés de Gran Bretaña por América Latina se mantendrá en la medida que esta región consolide las reformas políticas y económicas que está llevando a cabo.The ties between Latin America and Great Britain have not been close. However, since the end of the last decade there has been a growing interest from Great Britain in the region. To understand this new trend, this paper first analyzes the antecedents of Anglo-Latin American relations since 1930. Then, the various signs that show this reorientation are examined: the respective official visits, the presence of the Latin American issue in British parliamentary debates and the strengthening of economic ties, among others. Finally, the limitations or other areas of concern of British diplomacy that condition this approach are mentioned. In conclusion, it is suggested that Great Britain's interest in Latin America will continue to the extent that this region consolidates the political and economic reforms that it is carrying out.
