| dc.description | International studies have developed with considerable delay in Latin America and, in general, have paid little attention to their theoretical aspects. This, in turn, helps to explain this delay. The neglect of theory in the field of international studies has allowed interpretive visions to freeze in time that, despite the prestige that their place of "classics" gives them, have ceased to provide a correct description of contemporary international reality, limiting drastically the predictive capacity of these studies and their usefulness for the formulation of adequate foreign policies. | dc.description | Los estudios internacionales se han desarrollado con considerable retraso en América Latina y, en general, han prestado poca atención a sus aspectos teóricos. Esto, a su vez, contribuye a explicar ese retraso. El descuido de la teoría en el campo de los estudios internacionales ha permitido congelar en el tiempo visiones interpretativas que, no obstante el prestigio que les otorga su sitial de "clásicas", han dejado de proporcionar una descripción correcta de la realidad internacional contemporánea, limitando drásticamente la capacidad predictiva de dichos estudios y su utilidad para la formulación de políticas exteriores adecuadas.
