| dc.description | Relations between Mercosur and the European Union allowed a rapprochement that was fundamentally based on commercial and economic matters. This new stage of relations between the European Union and the Southern Cone of Latin America is explained by the significant economic flows in the nineties between the two regions, which led to an intensification of business and the liberalization of trade. Unlike the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean, which has the United States as its majority partner, Mercosur boasts a more diversified trade. In recent years, these countries have been the most dynamic emerging market for exports from the European Union and its main partner in Latin America. Although it was once thought that Chile would enter the Mercosur process as a fifth member, this country individually signed a Framework Cooperation Agreement with the European Union. | en-US |
| dc.description | Las relaciones entre el Mercosur y la Unión Europea permitieron un acercamiento que basado fundamentalmente en materias comerciales y económicas. Esta nueva etapa de relaciones entre la Unión Europea y el Cono Sur de América Latina se explica por los importantes flujos económicos en los noventa entre las dos regiones, lo que condujo a una intensificación de los negocios realizados y la liberalización de los intercambios comerciales. A diferencia del resto de América Latina y el Caribe, que tiene como socio mayoritario a Estados Unidos, el Mercosur ostenta un comercio más diversificado. En los últimos años, estos países han sido el mercado emergente más dinámico para las exportaciones de la Unión Europea y su principal socio en América Latina. Si bien se pensó en un momento que Chile ingresaría al proceso del Mercosur como un quinto miembro, este país firmó individualmente un Acuerdo Marco de Cooperación con la Unión Europea. | es-ES |
