| dc.description | To what extent are the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon a milestone that inaugurates a new era of the international system? Taking as a starting point the theses of Samuel P. Huntington on "the clash of civilizations" and Francis Fukuyama on "the end of history", this article examines the validity and relevance of each of them as keys to understanding what happened that day, concluding that the level of analysis and the empirical evidence presented in Huntington's work makes it more useful for these purposes. The paper concludes with a brief consideration of Urich Beck's approach to September 11 as a true "Chernobyl of globalization" and identifies the changes that are already on the horizon in the post-September 2001 world political and economic scene. | en-US |
| dc.description | ¿Hasta qué punto los atentados del 11 de septiembre contra las Torres Gemelas y el Pentágono constituyen un hito que inaugura una nueva era del sistema internacional? Tomando como punto departida las tesis de Samuel P. Huntington sobre "el choque de civilizaciones" y de Francis Fukuyama sobre "el fin de la historia", este artículo examina la validez y pertinencia de cada una de ellas como claves para entender lo ocurrido ese día, concluyendo que el nivel de análisis y la evidencia empírica presentada en la obra de Huntington la hace más útil para estos efectos. El trabajo concluye con una breve consideración del planteamiento de Urich Beck sobre el 11 de septiembre como un verdadero "Chernobyl de la globalización" e identifica los cambios que ya se avizoran en el escenario político y económico mundial post-septiembre del 2001 | es-ES |
