| dc.description | This paper recalls, from the personal perspective of a delegate present at this Conference, the gestation and configuration of the historic Antarctic Treaty of 1959. This negotiation made it possible for the continent to be born with its own laws and personality for the benefit of all humanity. In a context of the Cold War, it is emphasized that this Treaty could only be possible thanks to a spirit of mutual support, constituting an ingenious solution that left all parties calm. Among other things, are mentioned: its causes, the difficult negotiations; the importance of article IV; the topics that were included, such as the protection of the environment; its duration and the performance of key figures. | en-US |
| dc.description | En el presente trabajo se recuerda, desde la perspectiva personal de un delegado presente en esta Conferencia, la gestación y configuración del histórico Tratado Antártico de 195. Esta negociación hizo posible que el continente naciera con leyes y personalidad propias para beneficio de toda la humanidad. En un contexto de plena Guerra Fría, se enfatiza que este Tratado solo pudo ser posible gracias a un espíritu de apoyo mutuo, constituyendo una ingeniosa solución que dejó tranquilos a todas las partes. Entre los elementos claves de la conferencia se mencionan: sus causas; las difíciles negociaciones; la importancia de su artículo IV; los temas que se incluyeron, como por ejemplo la protección del medio ambiente; su duración y la actuación de figuras claves. | es-ES |
