| dc.description | The least that can be said about contemporary anti-Americanisms is that they seem to be occupying a growing space on the political horizon of Western Europe. It is therefore justified to attempt an examination of its possible causes and relative importance, a less easy task than it seems. The most appropriate seems to be to examine the pseudometaphoric character of anti-Americanism applied to the politics of nations and, on the other hand, its convincing credentials of anthropomorphic fallacy. The concept of "anti-Americanism" is more closely related to this than to metaphor, since it attributes human feelings, attitudes, affections and suspicions to the nation-state. Historical experience indicates that it is unwise to base foreign policy on such fallacies; however, some cases, such as the anti-American boom in the upper strata of European society, present characteristics that deserve study. | en-US |
| dc.description | Lo menos que se puede afirmar acerca de los antiamericanismos contemporáneos es que parecen estar ocupando un espacio creciente en el horizonte político de Europa occidental. Se justifica, por consiguiente, intentar un examen de sus posibles causas y relativa importancia, tarea menos fácil de lo que parece. Lo más apropiado parece ser el examinar el carácter pseudometafórico del antiamericanismo aplicado a la política de las naciones y, por otra parte, sus convincentes credenciales de falacia antropomórfica. El concepto de “antiamericanismo” está más estrechamente emparentado con esta que con la metáfora, puesto que atribuye al Estado-nación sentimientos, actitudes, afectos y suspicacias humanas. La experiencia histórica indica que es imprudente fundamentar la política exterior sobre tales falacias, sin embargo, algunos casos, como el del auge antiamericanista en los estratos altos de la sociedad europea, presentan características que merecen estudio. | es-ES |
