The year 1971 marked the beginning of the end of the system introduced in Bretton Woods 27 years ago. In mid-1972, the Board of Governors on Reform of the International Monetary System and Related Issues Committee was elected. The formulation of this reform is not an easy task, since it not only refers to the monetary reform of the System, but other important aspects come into play, such as international trade, balance of payments adjustments and the availability of necessary liquidity for developing countries, which complicates tremendously the task of achieving a new system that satisfies the internal interests, and in many cases conflicting, of the 125 member nations of the IMF. With this, The IMF it would become an organization with great international decision-making power, obliging member countries to abide by the guidelines issued by said Institution in order to make the system operational.El año 1971, marcó el inicio del fin del sistema implantado en Bretton Woods 27 años atrás. A mediados de 1972, se eligió el “Comité de la Junta de Gobernadores para la Reforma del Sistema Monetario Internacional y Materias Afines”. La formulación de esta reforma no es tarea fácil, ya que no solo se refiere a la reforma monetaria del Sistema, sino que entran en juego otros aspectos tan importantes, como los del comercio internacional, los ajustes de las balanzas de pagos y la disponibilidad de liquidez necesaria para los países en desarrollo, lo cual complica tremendamente la tarea de lograr un nuevo sistema que satisfaga los intereses internos, y en muchos casos contrapuestos, de las 125 naciones miembros del F.M.I. Con esto, pasaría a ser una organización de gran poder de decisión internacional, obligándose los países miembros a acatar las directrices que dicha Institución emitiera con el fin de hacer operativo el sistema.
