| dc.description | The Allied Occupation of Japan, between 1945 and 1952, is one of the most remarkable chapters in world history. The tone and style of the occupation were set by General Douglas Mac Arthur, Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers, who by the enlightened leadership of his own staff and the entire Japanese nation gave the stamp of his personality to the entire enterprise. Faced with the moral prostration of the people, he raised the need for a mystique and a moral rebirth to put the nation back on its feet. His most enduring work was the reform of the Constitution which established a parliamentary system of government and in which the position of the Emperor was changed. His reforms were vast and profound and modernized Japanese society: land reform, anti-trust law, labor law, and educational reform. | en-US |

El tono y el estilo de la ocupación fueron establecidos por el general Douglas Mac Arthur, Comandante Supremo de las Potencias Aliadas, quien por el esclarecido liderazgo de su propio personal y de toda la nación japonesa dio el sello de su personalidad a toda la empresa. Ante la postración moral del pueblo, planteó la necesidad de una mística y de un renacimiento moral para poner de nuevo en pie a la nación. Su obra más duradera fue la reforma de la Constitución que estableció un sistema parlamentario de gobierno y en la cual la posición del Emperador fue cambiada.
