| dc.description | The 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea established the Exclusive Economic Zone and gave rules for fishing on the high seas. The expansion of the zone in which the State exercises sovereign rights, prompted the remote fishing States to create mechanisms that would allow them to continue fishing in the sea areas that were previously part of the high seas, which has caused pressures on coastal states. At the same time, the rules regarding the fishing of specific marine resources, such as straddling and highly migratory species, have created various tensions between the remote fishing States and the coastal States. | dc.description | La Convención de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Derecho del Mar de 1982 consagró la Zona Económica Exclusiva y dio reglas para la pesca en alta mar. La ampliación de la zona en que el Estado ejerce derechos de soberanía, impulsó a los Estados de pesca a distancia a generar mecanismos que les permitieran seguir pescando en las áreas de mar que antes formaban parte de la alta mar, lo que ha ocasionado presiones sobre los Estados costeros. Al mismo tiempo, las normas relativas a la pesca de recursos marinos específicos, como son las especies transzonales y altamente migratorias, ha originado diversas tensiones entre los Estados de pesca a distancia y los Estados costeros. El presente artículo intenta reflejar las tensiones existentes en la actualidad. | es-ES |
