| dc.description | The 1980s will see significant changes in world economic stratification, with a relative shortening of the distance between the center and the semi-periphery and a greater distance between the semi-periphery and the rest of the Third World. It will be characterized by the crystallization of a middle class of emerging nations that will finally reach an understanding with the center and will have an expansion of its powers and benefits in the economic system. The formation of this middle class will take power away from the periphery and reduce vertical mobility between the two categories, so that those countries in the semi-periphery that do not obtain consistent growth rates will be relegated to a periphery that is narrower, more helpless and oppressed than that of the immediate past. | en-US |
| dc.description | La década de los 80 verá significativos cambios en la estratificación económica mundial, con un relativo acortamiento de la distancia entre el centro y la semiperiferia y un mayor distanciamiento de la semiperiferia del resto del Tercer Mundo. Se caracterizará por la cristalización de una clase media de naciones emergentes que llegará finalmente a un entendimiento con el centro y tendrá una expansión de sus atribuciones y beneficios en el sistema económico. La formación de esta clase media quitará poder a la periferia y reducirá la movilidad vertical entre las dos categorías, de manera que aquellos países de la semiperiferia que no obtengan tasas de crecimiento acordes quedarán relegados a una periferia más estrecha, desvalida y oprimida que la del pasado inmediato. | es-ES |
