The concept of interdependence is being revalued, both in Latin America and in other regions of the world, by governments and academic circles. In addition, certain conceptions of economic development that are original to the region, such as structuralism and dependency, are also being revised. Both aspects are discussed in this paper. The main purpose of this work is to make a broad presentation of the evolution of the interdependence of Latin America with the rest of the world in recent years, to consider the influence that the concepts of structuralism and dependency have had on this process and, finally, assess future prospects in light of the economic crisis that is affecting the region. The emphasis in this work is placed on Latin America's relationship with the rest of the world rather than on its own interrelationships or economic integration.El concepto de interdependencia está siendo revaluado, tanto en América Latina como en otras regiones del mundo, por los gobiernos y los círculos académicos. Además, también están siendo revisadas ciertas concepciones sobre el desarrollo económico que son originales de la región, tales como estructuralismo y dependencia. En este trabajo se discuten ambos aspectos. El principal propósito de este trabajo es efectuar una amplia presentación de la evolución de la interdependencia de América Latina con el resto del mundo en los últimos años, considerar la influencia que han tenido sobre este proceso los conceptos sobre estructuralismo y dependencia y, finalmente, evaluar perspectivas futuras a la luz de la crisis económica que está afectando a la región. El énfasis en este trabajo está puesto en la relación de América Latina con el resto del mundo antes que en sus propias interrelaciones o en la integración económica.
