Post-Soviet Ukraine in the light of critical geopolitics

| dc.description | The political events in Ukraine that sparked a civil war in the east of the country and brought as one of the most visible consequences of the separation of the Crimea and its subsequent annexation to the Russian Federation, can be analyzed from the internal division of the elite and the Ukrainian population during the Cold War. This fact explains, from the critical geopolitics, by the divergent interpretation of space that aroused a double fragmentation: territorial (east/west) and blocks (political elite/citizenship), which has prevented the emergence of a strong and independent organization. The result of this double tension is the emergence of what is called a “bipolar state”, which is precisely the essential characteristic of Ukraine in the post-Soviet era. | en-US |
| dc.description | Los acontecimientos políticos ocurridos en Ucrania que desataron una guerra civil en el oriente del país y que trajeron como una de las consecuencias más visibles la separación de la península de Crimea y su posterior anexión a la Federación Rusa, puede analizarse desde la división interna de la élite y la población ucraniana durante la post Guerra Fría. Este hecho se explica, desde la geopolítica crítica, por la interpretación divergente del espacio que suscitó una doble fragmentación: territorial (oriente/occidente) y de bloques (élite política/ciudadanía), que ha imposibilitado el surgimiento de una organización sólida e independiente. El resultado de esta doble tensión es la eclosión de lo que se denominará un “Estado bipolar”, que es justamente la característica esencial de Ucrania en la era post-soviética. | es-ES |
