dc.descriptionThis article analyzes the sources of change and of continuity in Honduran politics to better understand if the democratic regime is progressing toward consolidation. The article briefly presents the most relevant events of 2008, including relations between President Zelaya and Hugo Chávez, the efforts of women and Afro-Hondurans to increase their representation, and the primary elections of the traditional parties. Various changes indicate that democracy is stronger –that expansion of representation appears to be continuing, the possibility that the congress may function as a break on the president– but these changes still are not consolidated.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo analiza las fuentes de cambio y de continuidad en la política de Honduras para entender si el régimen democrático esta progresando hacia la consolidación. El presente artículo brevemente expone los eventos más relevantes del periodo 2008. Estos incluyen las relaciones entre el Presidente Zelaya y Hugo Chávez, los esfuerzos de las mujeres y de los afrohondureños para aumentar su representación política y las elecciones primarias de los partidos tradicionales. Varios cambios indican que la democracia está más fuerte –la expansión de la representación política parece continuará y existe la posibilidad de que el Congreso funcione como un freno contra el presidente– pero estos cambios todavía no están consolidados.es-ES
