Abstract
In this general article is presented background information on domestic animal viral diseases in Chile of emergent presentation like porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, avian influenza, canine parvovirus disease, chicken anaemia and turkey haemorrhagic enteritis. Description is based on Chilean literature. This article continues the background information presented in two previous articles refered to erradicated viral diseases from Chile and diseases of cyclic presentation and of high seroprevalence (Berríos, P. Antecedents in Chile of domestic animals viral diseases: Diseases eradicated and under control. Av. Cs. Vet. 16 (1 y 2): 3 - 14; Berríos P. 2002. Background information in Chile on domestic animal viral diseases. II. Diseases of cyclic presentation and of highseroprevalence. Av. Cs. Vet. 17(1 y 2): 3 - 13). In addition are presented some sporadic national reports about rotavirus, reovirus, coronavirus, respiratory syncitial virus, pulmonary adenomatosis, malignant catarrhal fever, border disease, Visna-Maedi, porcine viral encephalomyocarditis and swine influenza.
