| dc.description | This paper reviews the process of emergence of the egalitarian social movement during the period of1848-1851 in Chile. It also seeks to comprehend the causes that provoke its appearance and the alliances that took shape to put pressure toward a democratic transformation of the Chilean political scene. The findings are based on an expense analysis of primary sources and tries to understand the egalitarian demand and its contributions to the renewal of the political debate of the period. The paper seeks to propose that the egalitarian movement supported its demand in a democratic-republican conception of freedom, equality and fraternity, key aspect that has not been exposed so clearly proved in other studies, and that this movement was an essential piece of the process that manage to democratize Chilean politics at the period. | en-US |
| dc.description | El presente texto revisa el proceso político de emergencia del movimiento social igualitario durante el período 1848 a 1851 en Chile, e intenta dilucidar los motivos que provocaron su aparición, así como las alianzas que se fueron gestando entre distintos actores para presionar a mediano y largo plazo hacia una transformación democratizadora del escenario político chileno. Basado en un extenso análisis de fuentes primarias, se intenta entender la demanda igualitaria y se reconocen los aspectos novedosos que aportaron las más importantes figuras de este movimiento al debate público de la época. Se propone que el igualitarismo apoyó su demanda en una concepción sobre libertad, igualdad y fraternidad que se liga directamente con la corriente política republicano-democrática europea, aspecto que no ha sido tan claramente puesto en evidencia por otros estudios, pero también que fue un elemento fundamental para canalizar el proceso democratizador en el Chile de la época. | es-ES |
