The role of orthographic representation in the frequency of production of the voiced labiodental fricative [v] allophone of /b/

| dc.description | In spite of the claims that have been made about Spanish in general in almost all the bibliography, recent studies have proven that a labiodental allophone of /b/ can be found in Chilean Spanish rather frequently. In order to determine whether there is an influence of writing and literacy in the use of [v], and if it is either a natural or stilted allophone of [b], a corpus of oral production of /b/ of 10 subjects of both sexes between 12 and 14 years was elicited. The participants read a list of words and participated in a semi-directed conversation. It was demonstrated that there is no relation between the grapheme and its pronunciation. This is, that independent of the word spelling (v or b), most of the subjects elicited the labiodental consonant [v], which is the most frequent allophone of /b/ in both groups, regardless of the performed task. | en-US |
| dc.description | Al contrario de lo que prácticamente toda la bibliografía afirma con respecto al español en general, estudios recientes han demostrado que en el español de Chile se da, de manera bastante frecuente, un alófono labiodental de /b/. Con la finalidad de determinar si hay influencia de la escritura y la alfabetización en la realización de[v] y si es un alófono natural o afectado de /b/se elicitó un corpus de producciones orales de /b/ de 10 informantes de ambos sexos de entre 12 y 14 años, quienes leyeron una lista de palabras y participaron en una conversación semidirigida. Se comprobó que no hay una relación entre el grafema y la pronunciación de éste, es decir, que independientemente de si la palabra se escribe con o la mayoría de los sujetos realizan la consonante labiodental [v], que es el alófono de /b/ más frecuente en ambos grupos, independientemente de la tarea que realizaron. | es-ES |
