Resumen: La relevancia y el alcance del redescubrimiento de la tradición pictórica del ícono están aún por descubrir. Hoy se pintan íconos en todo el mundo, se realizan talleres y seminarios universitarios sobre su sentido teológico. Sin embargo, la investigación actual carece de un marco metodológico adecuado para articular las dos dimensiones de este fenómeno: la dimensión estética y la dimensión teológica. En el presente artículo, pues, nos proponemos contribuir a la conformación de este marco metodológico, defi niendo y estableciendo una relación entre la dimensión estética y la dimensión teológica del ícono. Palabras claves: Ícono, teología, estética, obra de arte, tradición. Abstract: The importance and range of rediscovering the pictorial art of icon painting are yet to be discovered. Nowadays icons are painted all over the world, workshops and university courses on their theological meaning are organised. However, modern research lacks an appropriate methodological framework that can articulate the two dimensions of this phenomenon: the aesthetic dimension and the theological one. This article aims at contributing to the formulation of this methodological framework by defi ning and establishing a relation between aesthetic and theological dimension of icons.
