With the present investigation we have tried to make a diagnosis of the state of the anthropological research in the first two decades of the 21st century in Venezuela. To do this, we consulted the opinion of Venezuelan anthropologists who do or have done research in Venezuela, both in the research institutes in the centre of the country and in the Andes, Zulia and Guayana. Likewise, the scientific production of the last eighteen years represented in the two main anthropological magazines in Venezuela: Anthropological Bulletin and Anthropological Magazine was taken into consideration, since the publications reflect the interests and the state of research at national level. Although anthropological investigations are still taking place in the country, they are made with great difficulties and little budget, so the future of the next generations of Venezuelan anthropologists is quite uncertain. The policies of promotion and incentive to scientific research have diminished notoriously since the second decade of the 21st century, an issue that is evident in the collapse of universities and the massive migration of researchers.Con la presente investigación hemos pretendido realizar un diagnóstico del estado de la antropología en las dos primeras décadas de la Venezuela del siglo XXI. Para ello, se consultó el parecer de antropólogos venezolanos que hacen o han hecho investigación en Venezuela, tanto en los institutos de investigación del centro del país como en los Andes, el Zulia y Guayana. Asimismo, se tomó en consideración la producción científica de los últimos dieciocho años reflejada en dos revistas venezolanas de antropología: Boletín Antropológico y Revista Antropológica, pues las publicaciones son un reflejo de los intereses y del estado de la investigación de un país. Aunque aún se producen investigaciones antropológicas en el país, se hacen con grandes dificultades y poco presupuesto, por lo que el futuro de las próximas generaciones de antropólogos venezolanos es bastante incierto. Las políticas de promoción e incentivo a la investigación científica han disminuido notoriamente desde la segunda década del siglo XXI, cuestión que se evidencia en el colapso de las universidades y la migración masiva de investigadores.
