Painter and writer, he embodied a tradition of millennia: the Ancient, the Byzantine and the modern. Fleeing from the massacres of Christians in Turkey, he suffered the hardships of thousands of other refugees, but found spiritual advise and comfort in Mount Athos. There he discovered the Byzantine and post-Byzantine artistic tradition. | dc.description | La traducción del texto del profesor Zías pretende dar a conocer al público hispanohablante la obra y pensamiento de Fotis Kóndoglu, una figura clave en la cultura neogriega. Pintor y escritor, encarnó una tradición milenaria: antigua, bizantina y moderna. Huyendo de las masacres de cristianos en Turquía, sufrió las penurias de miles de otros refugiados, pero encontró apoyo y consuelo espiritual en Monte Athos. Allí descubrió la tradición artística bizantina y posbizantina. Posteriormente reintroduciría el estilo pictórico bizantino y la técnica del fresco en la práctica de la Iglesia Ortodoxa, extendiéndola incluso a temas seculares. Además de su obra de creación pictórica, también se ocupó de restaurar antiguas pinturas de monasterios bizantinos.
