The necessity confronted by the first Christian believers to find a source both of legitimacy and of defense of nascent Christianity, generated within their community different ways to assimilate and comprehend the content of the Hebrew sacred texts. One of them was the 'typological' or 'figural' reading which, with the aforementioned aim, attempted to relate the texts of the old and New Testament. Seventy years after the original publication of the essay Figura by Erich Auerbach, which explained in depth the foundations of this issue, the present commemorative article returns to the origins and early evolution of the typological-figural interpretation in light of the ideas of the influential German philologist.La necesidad de hallar una fuente de legitimidad y defensa del naciente cristianismo, a la que se vieron enfrentados los primeros fieles, generó al interior de su comunidad distintas formas de asimilar y comprender el contenido de las Sagradas Escrituras hebreas. Una de ellas fue la llamada interpretación tipológica o figural, la cual, atendiendo a dicho fin, pretendía emparentar los textos del Antiguo y Nuevo testamentos. A setenta años de la publicación original del ensayo Figura, de Erich Auerbach, que exponía en profundidad los fundamentos de la cuestión descrita, el presente artículo conmemorativo regresa sobre los orígenes y temprana evolución de la interpretación tipológico-figural a la luz del pensamiento del influyente filólogo alemán.
