Liutprand of Cremona in Constantinople: the rhetoric of the compensation In this article, the author analyzes two works of Liutprand of Cremona, the Antapodosis and the Relatio of legatione constantinopolitana, from the perspective of the travel diary, highlighting the rhetorical resource that permanently becomes present in Liutprand's work, not for a substantial change in Constantinople between 949 and 968, but because the writer has changed: from deacon to bishop, from legacy of little range to imperial legacy. The "historical egocentrism" appears in this rhetoric in which a king is reviled, first, exalting at the same time the Greek emperor and, later, reviling the Byzantine emperor to exalt the Otons. It is the rhetoric of the compensation.En este artículo, el autor analiza dos obras de Liutprando de Cremona, la Antapodosis y la Relatio de legatione constantinopolitana, desde la perspectiva del relato de viaje, resaltando el recurso retórico que permanentemente se hace presente en la obra de Liutprando, y que no tiene que ver con un cambio sustancial que se haya operado en Constantinopla entre 949 y 968, sino con que el sujeto escribiente ha mutado: de diácono en obispo, de legado de poco rango a legado imperial. El -egocentrismo histórico‖ comparece en esta retórica que busca, primero, denostar un rey exaltando al emperador griego y, después, denostar al emperador bizantino para exaltar a los Otones. Es la retórica del desquite.
