| dc.description | Given the limited availability of primary sources to study the historical processes of the different groups of migrants, the ethnic press is an important contribution to know the different activities of the groups to study. This is the case of the “Unión Israelita de Valparaíso Society”, which included an important part of the Jewish community of Valparaíso-Viña del Mar (Chile) and whose community activities were enclosed by the magazine “Nosotros”, published in Santiago. In this work, we use the magazine in question as a historical source, aware of its limitations, but also of the value it has for the information it contains. This study seeks to obtain a background for a better understanding of the role played by the institution in the process of defending its identity values. Our hypothesis suggests that the institution was a good instrument for defending Jewish identity, despite the various difficulties that had to be faced, especially of an economic nature, spatial mobility and the integration that naturally occurred over time.Key words: community, identity, integration, Ashkenazi Jews | en-US |
| dc.description | Ante la limitada disponibilidad de fuentes primarias para estudiar los procesos históricos de las diferentes colectividades de migrantes, la prensa étnica constituye un importante aporte para conocer las distintas actividades de los grupos a estudiar. Es el caso de la Sociedad Unión Israelita de Valparaíso, que agrupaba a parte importante de comunidad judía de Valparaíso-Viña del Mar (Chile) y cuyas actividades comunitarias tuvieron acogida en la revista Nosotros, editada en Santiago. En este trabajo, utilizamos la revista en cuestión como fuente histórica, consciente de sus limitaciones, pero también del valor que posee por la información que contiene. Este estudio procura obtener antecedentes para una mejor comprensión del papel que desempeñó la institución en el proceso de defensa de sus valores identitarios. Nuestra hipótesis plantea que la institución fue un buen instrumento de defensa de la identidad judía, a pesar de, los diversos obstáculos que debían enfrentar, especialmente de carácter económico, junto a la movilidad espacial y la integración, que naturalmente se fue dando con el paso del tiempo.Palabras clave: comunidad, identidad, integración, judíos askenazíes | es-ES |
