El presente artículo analiza las figuras de los condes de Siruela y de Cifuentes como dos de los principales miembros de la nobleza austracista de un territorio fronterizodurante la guerra de Sucesión española como lo fue Cuenca. A través del estudio biográfico de las trayectorias vitales de los individuos que se vieron inmersos en el conflicto bélico hemos podido constatar las diversas motivaciones que movieron a los condes de Siruela y de Cifuentes a decantarse por la candidatura del archiduque Carlos al trono de España. Esta metodología nos ha podido mostrar que lejos de adoptar una posición política a favor de un modelo determinado de estructura política de la Monarquía Hispánica van a ser los intereses de distinto carácter personal los que caractericen las posiciones adoptadas por nobles como el conde de Cifuentes o el de Siruela tanto antes, como durante y al finalizar la guerra de Sucesión. Las distintas fases que marcaron el devenir de la guerra influyeron de forma determinante en el momento en el que cada uno decidió decantarse por el candidato austracista. Una vez finalizada la contienda, ambos se vieron represaliados con la confiscación de sus bienes e inmersos en un proceso de movilidad social descendente dentro de la nobleza hispana,hasta la consecución del perdón real en un caso y la firma del tratado de Viena en otro.Palabras clave: Guerra de Sucesión española, nobleza, austracismo, Cuenca, conde de Siruela.This article analyzes the figures of counts of Siruela and Cifuentes as two of the main members of the austracist nobility of a border territory during the war of Spanish Succession like was Cuenca. Through the biographical study of the life trajectories of individuals who were involved in the war we have seen the various motivations that moved to the counts of Siruela and Cifuentes to opt for the candidacy of Archduke Charles to the throne of Spain. This methodology has shown us that far from adopting a policy position in favor of a particular model of political structure of the Hispanic Monarchy they will be the interests of different personal nature that characterized the positions taken by nobles as the counts of Cifuentes or Siruelaboth before, during and at the end of the War of Succession. The different phases that marked the course of the war decisively influenced at the time in which each decided to opt for the austracist candidate. After overcoming the war both were repressed with the confiscation of their property and immersed in a process of downward social mobility within the Spanish nobility throughto achieve real forgiveness in one case and the signing of the Treaty of Vienna in another.Key words: War of Spanish Succession, nobility, austracismo, Cuenca, Siruela ́s Earl.
