| dc.description | This article discusses the changes in the urban structure of two recently globalized cities during the end of the twentieth century: Miami and Buenos Aires. The observations are based on a broader study of cities in Chile, Argentina, Canada and the United States, which is part of the author’s Ph.D. in Social Sciences dissertation, in FLACSO, Argentina. Revisions were made of interviews with expert urban developers and census data by urban rings, which consistently show the transformation of the urban model associated to changes in residential segregation phenomena. The proposition is that such phenomena evidence urban governance and sustainability issues arising from the globalization process of the new economy and the reshaping of modern cities. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este artículo analiza el cambio de la estructura urbana a fines del siglo XX en dos ciudades que se globalizaron recientemente: Miami y Buenos Aires. Las observaciones están basadas en un estudio más amplio de ciudades de Chile, Argentina, Canadá y Estados Unidos, que fue la tesis del autor para obtener el grado de Doctor en Ciencias Sociales, FLACSO, Argentina. Se consultaron entrevistas a urbanistas especialistas y análisis de datos censales por anillos urbanos, que coinciden al mostrar transformaciones del modelo urbano asociadas a cambios en el fenómeno de la segregación residencial, planteándose que son indicios de problemas de gobernanza y sustentabilidad urbana emergentes del proceso de globalización de la nueva economía y la reconfiguración de la ciudad moderna. | es-ES |
