| dc.description | Several changes have been taking place in indigenous land tenure and uses in the Montañita Community (Santa Elena Province), central coast of Ecuador, since the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century. These changes have resulted in a shift from community management of agriculture and livestock activities to a fragmented approach focused on an array of tourism services. This article seeks to identify key factors influencing shifts in indigenous land tenure using GIS maps for the period between 1 937 and 2009. The findings suggest that this process has been influenced by the Ecuadorian state and private investors, with dramatic impacts both on the environment and on ancestral cultural patterns. | en-US |
| dc.description | Desde inicios del siglo XX hasta inicios del siglo XXI, se han producido diversos cambios en la estructura de la propiedad y el uso del suelo indígena en la Comuna de Montañita, provincia de Santa Elena, en la costa central del Ecuador. Estos cambios han significado un desplazamiento desde una gestión comunitaria, enfocada a la explotación agropecuaria, hacia una gestión fragmentada, orientada hacia diversas actividades de servicio turístico. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo identificar los factores que han incidido en la transformación de la tenencia del suelo en territorio aborigen, utilizando sistemas de información geográfica (SIG) para el período comprendido entre los años 1937 y 2009. Los resultados indican que este proceso -influenciado por la presencia del Estado ecuatoriano e inversionistas- ha impactado dramáticamente el medio ambiente y los patrones culturales ancestrales. | es-ES |
