Evangelization has been important in the development of architecture. It has even defined rites, spaces and compositional elements that have become part of the towns' local identity. In Chiloe, where from the seventeenth century onwards and as a result of the circular mission of Jesuits, tower-façades were defined, among other elements. Today, they are part of the local identity and an icon of the archipelago's cultural landscape. While uncertain in its origins (allegedly a contribution by Jesuits), it was Italian Franciscan Missionaries who consolidated and disseminated the style. These players made a considerable contribution to architecture in Chiloe and in the rest of the country. Further research of these facts will support anchoring Chiloe's lifestyle to its own history.La evangelización ha sido importante en el desarrollo de la arquitectura, a tal grado de definir ritos, espacios y elementos composicionales que han llegado a formar parte de la identidad de los pueblos. Este es el caso de Chiloé que, a partir del siglo XVII, por medio de la misión circular de los jesuitas permitió la definición, entre otros elementos, de la torre-fachada, que hoy en día es parte de la identidad e icono del paisaje cultural del archipiélago. Si bien es cierto aún no se tiene certeza de su origen (pareciera ser que es un aporte de los jesuitas), su consolidación y divulgación fue gracias a la llegada de los misioneros franciscanos italianos, quienes hicieron un significativo aporte a la arquitectura de Chiloé y del país. Investigar estos hechos permitirá anclar más aún la vida de Chiloé a su propia historia.
