Venezuela’s pavilion for Berlin’s Interbau in 1957, a work by architect Guido Bermúdez and engineer Johannes Johannson, is a folded sheet that evokes what’s basic about inhabiting: dwelling beneath a cover. This building, the result of an operational process, reinterprets and expands fundamental architectural elements and techniques, such as the proposals made by Gottfried Semper to explain the evolution of architecture aside from any style. Without being housing, this structural experiment reflects on the way of living in the tropics based on a primitive tent-cabin. It also shows the development of Venezuelan architecture during the greatest expansion of the modern movement in the country. This analysis of the ideas and processes involved in the project collects and rebuilds the technical and visual documentation of a unique project in Venezuela’s architecture history and of post-war modern pavilion types.El Pabellón de Venezuela para la Interbau de Berlín en 1957, obra del Arquitecto Guido Bermúdez y del Ingeniero Johannes Johannson, es una hoja plegada que evoca lo básico del habitar: morar bajo una cubierta. Este edificio, producto de un proceso operativo, reinterpreta y amplía elementos y técnicas arquitectónicas fundamentales, como las propuestas por Gottfried Semper para explicar la evolución de la arquitectura al margen de estilismos. Sin ser una vivienda, este experimento estructural reflexiona sobre el modo de vivir en el trópico a partir de la tienda-cabaña primitiva. También ejemplifica el desarrollo de la arquitectura venezolana en el momento de mayor expansión del movimiento moderno en el país. Este análisis de las ideas y de los procesos de proyecto, compila y reconstruye la documentación técnica y visual de un proyecto singular de la historia arquitectónica venezolana y de la tipología de los pabellones modernos de la posguerra.
