| dc.description | During the first decades of the 20th century, constructions in Santiago de Chile were predominantly low adobe and brick buildings. This style was inconsistent with the new modern paradigms that were cautiously beginning to pervade the country’s architectonic ideas and the technical advancements resulting from the arrival of industrialized materials to the capital city. This paper presents an interpretation of the material dimensions of Santiago’s architecture based on an unpublished work that involves developing four maps registering the materials and number of stories of buildings in downtown Santiago between 1910 and 1939. The task uses information of the cadasters prepared by the Municipality of Santiago during such years. This interpretation aims at evidencing the way in which building techniques conditioned architectural possibilities and impacted urban changes that took place in Santiago between 1910-1939, which finally led to its consolidation as a modern metropolis. | en-US |
| dc.description | Durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX, Santiago de Chile era aún una ciudad predominantemente conformada por edificaciones bajas de adobe y ladrillo, condición que no se condecía con los nuevos paradigmas modernos que tímidamente permeaban el ideario arquitectónico del país, ni con los avances técnicos manifestados en el arribo de materiales industrializados a la capital. Este artículo propone una lectura de la dimensión material de la arquitectura santiaguina a partir de un trabajo inédito de elaboración de cuatro planos que registran las materialidades y número de pisos de las edificaciones del centro de la capital en los años 1910 y 1939, basándose en información de los catastros realizados por la Ilustre Municipalidad de Santiago en dichos años. Esta lectura busca evidenciar cómo las técnicas constructivas condicionaron las posibilidades arquitectónicas, repercutiendo en los cambios urbanos que vivió Santiago en el lapso 1910-1939 que la llevaron a consolidarse como metrópolis moderna. | es-ES |
