La casa de altos constituyó una pieza urbana desarrollada especialmente en la trama central de las ciudades y poblados, representando una expresión del vivir central. Su principal aporte urbano es que contribuyó a la configuración de la trama central de la gran mayoría de las ciudades chilenas.
