dc.descriptionIntroduction: Sexual counseling for adolescents allows teens to exert control on their sexual behavior, anticipate consequences and develop long-term planning capacity. Objective: Description of the profile of adolescents who attend sexual counseling in an outpatients care center. Method: We describe 198 adolescents attending to counseling between August 2000 and October 2003, with 14,2% of the teens supervised up to that date. We studied independent factors: age, gender, school level, motivation to consult, family perception, adolescent pregnancy in the family, sexual abuse, and dependent factors: sexual risk behaviour, age at first intercourse, number of partners. Results: The mean age was 15.6 ± 2.5 years and 47% were sexually active. The mean age for the first sexual intercourse was 15.6 years. 30% of adolescents presented risk behaviors (substance abuse, school drop-out and runaway behaviour), and 36% had sexual risk behaviours (unprotected sex or Petting III). 16% were one-timers and 28% were abstinent at the moment. The mean age at the first intercourse was significantly lower in teens with multiple partners. From the sexually inactive group, 66% were delayers and 31% anticipators. Conclusions: Learning from the diverse sexual behaviours and characteristics of our adolescents would help us develop specific intervention programs in order to contribute to the preventive role of the pediatrician in adolescent sexuality.en-US
dc.descriptionLa consejería en sexualidad permite a los adolescentes comprender que ejercen control sobre su conducta, a anticipar consecuencias y desarrollar capacidad para planificar a largo plazo.Objetivo: Describir características de adolescentes consultantes a consejería en sexualidad en un Centro de Adolescencia. Pacientes y Método: Se estudiaron 198 adolescentes derivados entre agosto 2000 y octubre 2003 (14,2% del total en el centro). Se evaluaron variables independientes: edad, sexo, escolaridad, motivo de consulta, percepción familiar, embarazos adolescentes en la familia, antecedente de abuso sexual, y variables dependientes: intención de conducta sexual, grado de Petting, edad de inicio de actividad sexual, anticoncepción y número de parejas. Resultados: Edad promedio 15,6 ± 2,5 años, 47% sexualmente activos. Promedio de edad inicio 15,6 años. 30% presentaba otra conducta de riesgo (consumo sustancias, deserción escolar, abandono hogar), y 36% conducta sexual de riesgo (coito no protegido o Petting III), 16% coito único y 28% abstinencia actual. La edad promedio de inicio de coito vaginal fue significativamente menor en adolescentes que tenían parejas múltiples. Entre los sexualmente inactivos, un 66% refirieron ser postergadores y 31% anticipadores.Conclusión: Conocer las diversas características en sexualidad de los adolescentes permitirá aplicar modelos de intervención específicos para cada caso, contribuyendo al rol preventivo del pediatra general en sexualidad de adolescentes.es-ES
