dc.descriptionBased on the literature and statistical data from the San Borja Arriaran Hospital, we revised the prinicipal causes of presentation of newborns in the Emergency Department. The wide diagnostic spectrum included physiological phenomenon, simple pathology and pathologies sufficient serious to endanger life. The symptoms bringing the newborn to the ER were difficulty breathing, apnoea, jaundice, fever, colic, vomiting, constipation, GI bleeding and seizures. A differencial diagnosis was made allowing an orientation in the initial management of these high risk patients. The objective of this article is to give to the general pediatrician useful guidelines in the initial diagnosis of an ill newborn brought to the ER by his parents.en-US
dc.descriptionBasado en la literatura y en datos estadísticos del Hospital Clínico San Borja Arriarán, se revisan los principales motivos de consulta del recién nacido en el servicio de urgencia. El amplio espectro diagnóstico incluye fenómenos fisiológicos, patologías de sencilla resolución y patologías graves que pueden poner en peligro la vida del recién nacido. Partiendo de los grandes síntomas referidos por los padres: dificultad respiratoria, apnea, ictericia, fiebre, cólicos, vómitos, constipación, sangramiento gastrointestinal y convulsiones, se realiza un diagnóstico diferencial que permita una orientación inicial en el manejo de este grupo etario de alto riesgo. El Objetivo de este artículo es entregar al pediatra general elementos orientadores útiles en el enfrentamiento inicial de un recién nacido que es traído por sus padres o cuidadores al servicio de urgencia.es-ES
