A biomedical and paedriatric literature review was carried out to examine the relationship between the University of Chile Medical School, founded in 1833, and the first in the country, and the evolution of child and adolescent health during its 170 year history. Gradually, the school provided the basis for the University of Chile, Faculty of Medicine. The article highlights some of the important events and persons that made important contributions to the care of children and adolescents in Chile.Con una revisión de la literatura biomédica pediátrica, el artículo revisa -en forma somera- la relación que la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Chile, primera creada en el país y puesta en marcha en 1833, ha tenido con la evolución de la salud infantil y adolescente de Chile en los 170 años transcurridos desde su creación. Con el tiempo, la Escuela originó la Facultad de Medicina de la misma universidad. Se destacan algunos hechos y nombres de personas que hicieron aportes de importancia al progreso de la educación médica pediátrica y de la salud infantil y del adolescente.
