| dc.description | The Chilean littoral dunes are formed by erosion processes of agricultural soils, with the rivers transporting the sediment to the sea. Here, the nutrients are dissolved and the washed soil is returned to the littoral where it is spread by the wind when dry. Dunes cover a great part of the Central zone of Chile where there is great agricultural activity. Once stabilized, the dunes are covered by a vegetation which is described on the basis of 5 formations and 21 vegetable associations. Primary dunes, formed near the sea, have few species and a low coverage. The influence of salt water does not allow a latitudinal differentiation. Therefore, only the Nolanetum paradoxae association exists. Secondary dunes are dryer and therefore more extreme, with an unstable substrate, dry and lacking nutrients. Its vegetation has few species, low coverage and 4 associations with little latitudinal variation. Terciary dunes are shrubby, more stable and humid. Therefore, the number of species and coverege increases. 8 associations are found with clear latitudinal differentiations. In older terciary dunes, completely consolidated with organic soil, forests and esclerophylic shrubs (each with 2 associations) are found. Lastly, in depressions of interior dunes, 4 brackish palustrian communities with Ciperaceans, which sometimes surround lakes or lagoons, are found. The zonation of these associations is described and their dynamic relationships in the vegetational sucession are described. | en-US |
| dc.description | Las dunas litorales chilenas tienen su origen en procesos erosivos de tierras agrícolas, con el correspondiente acarreo de sedimentos por los ríos, hacia el mar. Este último disuelve los nutrientes y devuelve el suelo lavado, como arena, al litoral. Al secarse, los vientos se encargan de dispersarla. Por lo anterior, las dunas tienen mayor extensión en la zona Central de Chile, con mayor actividad agrícola. Al estabilizarse, las dunas van siendo cubiertas por vegetación. Se describe esta vegetación en base a 5 formaciones y 21 asociaciones vegetales. Las dunas primarias, formadas cerca del mar, tienen pocas especies y baja cobertura. La influencia del agua salada no permite una diferenciación latitudinal, por lo que se distingue una sola asociación: Nolanetum paradoxae. Las dunas secundarias son más secas y, por ello, más extremas, con un sustrato inestable, seco y deficiente en nutrientes. Su vegetación tiene pocas especies, baja cobertura y 4 asociaciones, con escasa variación latitudinal. Las dunas terciarias, arbustivas, son más estables y húmedas, por lo cual aumenta el número de especies y su cobertura. Se encontraron 8 asociaciones, con una clara diferenciación latitudinal. En dunas terciarias, más antiguas, completamente consolidadas y con suelo orgánico, prosperan bosques y matorrales esclerófilos (con 2 asociaciones cada uno). Por último, en depresiones de dunas interiores se presentan 4 comunidades palustres salobres, con Ciperáceas, que suelen rodear lagunas o albuferas. Se describe la zonación de estas asociaciones y sus relaciones dinámicas en la sucesión vegetal. | es-ES |
