Fire Behavior is a concept which should be known and applied in the preparation and implementation of forest fire control plans and in the use of prescribed burning in forest management. This publication develops a conceptual analysis of fire behavior, the variables which characterize it (basically rate of spread and fire intensity) and the factors (topographical, vegetational and climatic) which influence the starting and spreading of fires. The text briefly describes the aplication of various aspects of the fire behavior concept which traditionally are included in the field of fire prevention and fighting. Finally, in order to make the material better known in Chile, some information is presented about the intended contribution of the Universidad Austral's Proyect F-8.El comportamiento del fuego es un concepto que debe ser conocido y aplicado en la preparación y ejecución de Planes de Control de Incendios Forestales y en el uso del Fuego prescrito en diferentes aspectos del Manejo de Bosques. La presente publicación desarrolla un análisis conceptual del Comportamiento, las variables que lo caracterizan (Velocidad de Propagación e Intensidad Calórica, básicamente) y de los factores (topográficos, vegetacionales y climáticos) que ejercen influencia en la ignición y desarrollo de los incendios. Someramente se describe la aplicación del concepto del Comportamiento del Fuego en diferentes aspectos que tradicionalmente se incluyen en la Prevención y Combate. Finalmente se entregan algunas informaciones sobre la contribución que se pretende con la ejecución del Proyecto F-8 de la Universidad Austral, a objeto de mejorar el conocimiento sobre materia en Chile
