| dc.description | Relativism has risen in the estimation of Postmodern societies, but it is as old as Aristotle, as we can see in his Metaphysics, Bk. IX. Thomas Aquinas' stance concerning Relativism can be found in his commentary on that book. He there makes use of modal concepts (necessity, possibility, contingency, etc.) as the fundamental conceptual tool, valid at all epistemological levels: logical, physical, metaphysical, moral, political, artistic, etc. Aquinas' answer to Relativism, or rather his «alternative», can be called theory ofthe best possible. The present paper outlines that theory, based on another one, the theory of the necessarily possible. Such a theory is widely unattended today and might be regarded with a certain degree of nostalgia, although its importance is easy to see. | en-US |
| dc.description | La teoría relativista, de gran auge en las sociedades posmodernas, es tan vieja como Aristóteles. El Estagirita la combatió en el libro IX de la Metafisica, tal como puede verse a través del comentario que Tomás de Aquino ha hecho sobre ese libro. Por tanto, para demarcar la Posición del Aquinate frente al relativismo, es preciso refrotraerse al Estagirita. En este análisis se descubre que los conceptos modales (necesidad, posibilidad, contingencia, etc.) son la herramienta conceptual fundamental, a cualquier nivel epistemológico: lógico, fisico, metafisico, ético, político, artístico, y así sucesivamente. La solución que Tomás brinda al relativismo —como «alternativa» mejor— es aquí denominada teoría de lo Inejor posible; la misma, que tiene como fundamento a la teoría de lo necesarianzenteposible, es desarrollada en el presente escrito en sus delineamientos básicos. Nuestra condición histórica respecto de la misma es característicamente nostálgica, pues, aun siendo su necesidad urgente, su desatención es notoria. | es-ES |
