Virtue is an inescapable component when it comes to philosophical reflection on ethical behaviour. It can furthermore be seen that during the Early Middle Ages, specially during the VIIIth and IXth centuries, the concept of moral virtue is a topic of frequent discussion and treatment within ecclesiastical and domestic circles. In fact, its logico- semantical clarification was of particular importance given the intent of educating the prince toward a virtuous life, so that he could govern the portion entrusted to him with justice and righteousness. Due to the dificulty of agreeing with systematic treatises on moral doctrine belonging to this period, the present work will study the sense of virtus and its concrete manifestation in the practical configuration of the Early Medieval ordo laicorum through a hermeneutic investigation of the Liber Manualis Dhuodane, whose authorship belongs to a layperson, the Duchess of Septimania.La virtud es un componente ineludible cuando se trata de una reflexión filosófica en torno al comportamiento ético. Asimismo, se observa que durante la temprana Edad Media, especialrnente.los siglos VIII y IX, el concepto de virtud moral es un tema de frecuente discusión y tratamiento dentro de los medios eclesiásticos y domésticos. En efecto, su esclarecimiento lógicosemántico revestía una particular importancia dado que se buscaba educar al príncipe en la vida virtuosa a fin de que pudiese gobernar conjusticia y rectitud la porción que se le había encomendado. Ante la dificultad de convenir con tratados sistemáticos de doctrina moral pertenecientes a este período, en el presente trabajo se estudiará, entonces, el sentido de la virtus y su manifestación concreta en la configuración práctica del ordo laicorum altomedieval a través de la hermenéutica del Liber Manualis Dhuodane, cuya autoría pertenece a una seglar, la Duquesa de Septimania.
